Best Girls School - Glenwood High School, Glenrothes

Lauren and Chloe's results, when added together, totalled 105 points. This was more than enough to take the title of Best Girls School for Glenwood High. Considering that 18 other schools, throughout Scotland, entered one or more girls in these championships and that the second placed school was over twenty points behind, makes this a remarkable achievement!

Well done Glenwood High School

Well done Lauren, Ahron and Chloe!!!!

Junior Steam Foil at Cargilfield

14th November 2009

Well done to three of our young fencers who went to this competition. It was the first competition for Connor McKenzie who did well and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Aidan, like Katrina a fortnight earlier, had to retire early when the dreaded Lurgi struck while Katrina had recovered enough to take Silver in the U9 competition.

Junior Steam Foil at Linlithgow

31st October 2009

Aidan and Katrina went to Linlithgow Academy on Saturday. Aidan stormed to a Gold in the U13 Boys and went on to win a Bronze in the U15 Foil. Excellent results Aidan!

Katrina started off fantastically and looked odds-on for medals but, sadly, had to withdraw when she became unwell. Get well soon Katrina.

Round One YDS

24th/25th October 2009

Great results for the club again this weekend with 10 medals, 5 of them gold, added to the club medal table!

Well done to Katrina, Lauren, Ahron and Chloe. Here's the link to where the results are so you can work out who got what! Bet you get stuck at 9!!!!!

PS. Each of the 10 medals is listed elsewhere on the site. Double or quits that you can't find them :)

Here's a nice group photo of our proud medal winners

Thanks to Andy (aka David Bailey) for this superb example of the photographers art.

With the growing season for medals only just started we're already 25% of the way towards last years total. With a steam contest coming up this weekend maybe you'll all have a chance to bring back some shiny round discs!

Don't worry about not having fenced for very long; everybody else there is in the same boat!!

Glasgow LPJS Foil

17th October 2009

Four young Club fencers made the trek westward to compete in the first ever Glasgow Leon Paul Junior Series (LPJS) Foil.

Lauren and Katrina added two Silver medals to the Club table in the U11 and U9 competitions while Chloe struck Gold in the U15 Girls.

Commiserations to Ahron who, due to unfortunate circumstances, missed out on a medal to add to the Silver he won in the last Scottish LPJS!

Thanks to Keith Davidson of GWEFC who sent in these pictures for your delight and delectation

Lauren and Katrina proudly displaying their Silver Medals while wearing their NEW Dunfermline Fencing Club Tee Shirts. Yup, just after we broke up for the Autumn break we took delivery of Club clothing and badges. Details will be posted up here soon!

Cadet and Junior Championships

3rd/4th October 2009

Well done Chloe who came 12th in the Cadets (U17) Ladies Foil on the Saturday and a creditable 42nd in the Junior (U20) to earn valuable points in both series.

Commiserations to Andrew who came down with the dreaded Lurgi before the Junior Epee but still manfully struggled on!

Nice One Andrew

Well done to Andrew Winter who got picked to represent Scotland at Epee in the recent UK School Games. A frequent visitor to the Club, Andrew is best known for being 'beaten up' at Pirates by the young ones.

This week he only managed to hold on to his UKSG Team Bronze Medal by the skin of his teeth!

A Doric Duo for Dunfermline FC

18th/19th July 2009

A visit to the Granite City at the weekend brought a brace of silver medals for Chloe - Ladies Epee and Foil. She was pipped at the post for the Master at Arms award by fellow Fife fencer, Sebastian Schulz of St Andrews University, but was happy to settle for best school pupil.

Tanya and Ken, regular visitors to our club, picked up honours as well. Ken with a bronze (Mens Foil) and Tanya with the same in the Ladies Foil.

Well done, all of you!

Dunfermline Fencer wins Olympian Medal!

Well done Chloe for picking up a Bronze medal in the Ladies Foil at the Much Wenlock Olympian Games (12th July 2009). As this year marks the Bicentenary of the birth of Dr William Penny Brookes, founding father of the modern Olympic Games, each contestestant was also awarded a participation medal.

Alan also took part and came in a creditable 14th in the Mens Foil. Pictures in Gallery

Dunfermline Fencer wins Kendal Mint Cake!

20/21st June 2009

Alan and Chloe went to the Cumberland Open 2009 in Carlisle. Alan won zilch (11th in Epee!) but Chloe picked up a creditable bar of Kendal Mint Cake (KMC) in the Ladies epee, a second bar in the Ladies sabre and a jaw-busting three bars in the Ladies foil!!!

Five bars of KMC in one weekend! Fantastic performance. She also picked up a bronze at epee, another bronze at sabre and a gold medal at foil.

As this is the first ever Cumberland Open her name will be the first on the Jennings Trophy- (picture of medals, trophy and KMC bars in the Gallery))

As regular readers know, Chloe's ambition was to win Gold at a Senior Open before she was fourteen- she did it with nearly six months to spare!

Her next goal is to break into the top 100 British foilists before the end of the season. She's sitting at 104 just now and has her fingers crossed that this weekends results will get her over the line.
